About
Andrew Abad Salkewicz (b. 1995)
Andrew Salkewicz uses oil paintings to open dialogue about waste, morality, and social norms in our current era. Examining the relationship between refuse and legacy, the artist creates pictures that motivate the examination of what we will leave behind.
The artist’s current approach draws attention to waste and consumer identity, juxtaposing subject matter centered around fragmented leavings, with classical and baroque design elements. These leavings (trash or other objects that may be considered expired in their use), are viewed as byproducts of industry and society. Wavering between realism and impressionistic tendencies to highlight the subject, Salkewicz is interested in the relationship we have with our refuse, how it relates to our legacies, and the ceremonies that surround consumptive action.
